Path of Exile Item Upgrades
The performance of many Path of Exile items can be improved by upgrading their performance. They can be a good source of damage, more AD or even more attaches.
In most cases, however, upgraded Common and Magic gear is often surpassed by Rare-grade equipment due to their requirements.
Armor
Armor upgrades can be applied to both weapon and armor items. They boost the performance of the item they are connected to. Armor upgrades are found in the world of the game and can be purchased from Blacksmiths at any bonfire. The level of an armor's or weapon's upgrade determines the amount of damage it can take on. The absorption of damage by an armor piece will increase when it's upgraded to its maximum upgrade level. However, it's important note that this will also increase its weight, which will cause it to be heavier than it was before.
There are many different kinds of armor upgrade available in the game. Each has a different effect. Jewels
Jewels can be used to increase the effectiveness of a skill or provide additional effects in weapons and armor. Jewelry crafting is the process of making them, where you combine the gemstone with specific reagents on a jewelry table. The higher the grade of the gem is, the greater its secondary effect. These reagents can be obtained from Treasure Goblins and World Bosses around the world, or by collecting Legendary Gear. You can also purchase them from The Jeweler in exchange for Scattered Prisms and gold.
The Jeweler can enhance the quality of the gem in stages that range from Crude up to Royal. Based on the tier of the jewel, it will provide a different stat boost when slotted into weapons, gear and jewelry.
All kinds of jewels are crafted at the Jeweler however, there are some exceptions to this, such as the rare and legendary gems that require you to be at a high enough level to obtain them. Jewels can be substituted with another one without damaging the original. You can only replace the gem once in an item of equipment.
It is typical to use more jewels for aesthetic reasons. In addition to enhancing performance, the jewels create an area that is stronger than metal, which means that repeated friction from pivots won't cause damage as easily.
A Glyphmaster can provide glyphs that can enhance the appearance of your weapons and shields. These glyphs provide a small boost and can be swapped, but they're not guaranteed to be available as loot. Glyphs are upgradeable, like jewelry, at the Jeweler for gold and a Scattered Crystal. Glyphs can also be removed, which returns them to the inventory. Other upgrade components, such as traits and aegis are not swappable, and can only be recovered using an Upgrade Extractor or salvaging them using the Black Lion Salvage Kit or an Ascended Salvage Tool.
Trinkets
Trinkets are pieces of equipment that offer a wide range of tiny but valuable advantages to your hero. You can find them in the starting area as rewards for personal stories or loot. They are also available through vendors and after the completion of road interactions. They can also be crafted by jewelers, and found or purchased at the Trading Post.
The first trinket that a player can unlock is the cloak. It provides a tiny but valuable boost in movement speed and the ability to evade. The player will then be able to acquire necklaces, rings, and amulets, in a similar way to how they acquired weapons and armor. Each piece of equipment comes with one upgrade slot that accepts either a universal or jewel upgrade. Universal upgrades are smaller and can be utilized on any equipment. Jewels cannot be upgraded or replaced and are only compatible with certain trinkets.
These trinkets provide additional buffs and abilities that are active even when the hero isn't fighting. This lets the hero perform better when they are not active, and can also help make up for a lack of a strong team or any slots from the talent tree that normally are filled with hero's ideal stats.
A good guideline for trinket upgrades is to prioritize BiS (Best-in-Slot) items that you won't be replacing in the near future, then any items with desirable stats that are less important than the iLevel of the item being upgraded. This is especially true when an item has multiple stats you'd like to upgrade, since it's generally more beneficial to upgrade one important stat rather than two sub-optimal ones.
Jungle players usually upgrade their yellow trinket to a red trinket at the start of the game. Mid and top players, on the other hand will pick either a pink or green ward, based on the matchup. These choices will have a significant impact on the hero's map control abilities.
Apart from the things mentioned above, players can also find other trinkets in the game in the form of trophies and awards. These can be obtained by completing certain milestones in the story. For instance, completing the main quest of a chapter or beating a boss. These achievements can be seen by selecting the appropriate achievement from the reward tab of the hero menu.
